Titus as Caesar AR Denarius 73 CE RIC 554 [Vespasian]

Titus Caesar AR Denarius circa 73,

19mm., 3.25g.

Obv: Laureate head r.

Rev. Emperor seated r. on curule chair, feet on footstool, holding sceptre and olive branch. C 158. RIC 554. Toned, Very Fine. From the M.J. Collection.

Ex: Naville Numismatics Live Auction 53 Lot 522

This great looking coin with a really wonderful portrait is a a mule. The obverse is Titus but the reverse is impossible for Titus as caesar. As Caesar Titus cannot be the chief priest. The reverse then is for Vespasian and not meant for Titus. The fact that it is a mule makes this coin interesting, but what it special is the great portrait that expresses much character.
